The Scarlett Letter

Chapters 1-2

Chapter one was more of a scene setting chapter. Gathered around a prison in the seventeenth century was a crowd  of many malcontent people. Everyone is gathered around to find out the punishment that will happen to Hester Prynne. She is then put on the scaffold and has to wear a dark scarlett red letter A on her chest as her punishment. She accepts the scarlett letter as a part of her sin.

Chapters 3-4

Hester spots her husband in the crowd of people as she is standin on the scaffold. Hester is told by him to never tell a  person about hsi identity and who he is. We find out that Hester's husband is a doctor when he is called to the cell for medical assistance. He followed Hester to America after he finished some buisiness.

Chapters 5-6
Now that Hester has been released from her sentence, she has been doing needlework. Hester also has many problems with her daughter, Pearl, and she believes that of her own sin that her daughter is evil.

Chapters 7-8
Hester hears about a rumor going around town that the govenor and other townsfolk want to take pearl away from her. Hester confronts the govenor about this matter when she delivers the gloves she made. Hester says that she can teach pearl how to behave and to become a civilized being. Dimmsdale agrees to what Hester has to say and this influences the govenors decision and lets Hester keep Pearl.

Chapters 9-10
