There was a boy named schatz that had thought he was going to die because he had a temperature of one hundred and two degrees. His father tried explaining to him that people don't just die of one hundred and two degrees temperature. His father explained to him that it was just silly talk. Then Schatz had told him that a boy had told him that you could not live with a temperature of forty four degrees, but his father had told him that he was told of a different thermometer. On such thirty seven degrees is a normal temperature. The thermometer they were using had a normal temperature of ninety eight degrees. The boy then got over his problem, but then suddenly cried the next day of things that were of no importance.
A Clean Well-Lighted Place
This short story was about a man who was deaf and has much money to himself yet he tends to do nothing but sit around and drink at an old cafe. He had tried to commit suicide, but his neice looks after him and she saw him attempt this and she cut him down. The man was sitting in the cafe one night and he always stays late and one waiter does not appreciate it at all. The waiter is always upset because he has to stay very late and never gets enough sleep to himself with his wife. The other waiter did not approve of the way he behaved because a clean well-lighted place is just what a man needs sometimes, which is exactly what the cafe was. The upset waiter then told the old man that he was done drinking after he had one more glass of brandi. So the old man paid for his drinks and stumbled home.
Hills Like White Elephants
The concept of this story was pretty stright forward after you get the message. The story was basically with a man talking to a woman about a "procedure" that she needed to have done, but she did not know if she wanted to do it or not. They were sitting and drinking beer while talking about the procedure. She said that she did not know if it was right or not to have it done. The man said that if she wanted to have it done that he would make sure that everything was fine while the procedure was taken into act. The procedure was actually to have an abortion. She wasn't sure whether or not, but they sat and drank beer until the train came.
The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber
Francis Macomber was a wealthy man that had a wife that would not leave him because he had so much money, and Francis would not leave her because he was not confident enough to. They both go on a saffari with a man named Mr. Wilson. On the first hunt they are going for a lion and Francis ended up running and Mr.Wilson ended up killing the lion. Francis's wife then ended up calling him a coward for running from the lion, and that night she slept with Mr.Wilson. Francis was furious about this and was not very happy at all. He then started building up the confiedence to leave his wife. They next went on a water buffalo hunting and right as Francis was about to kill one his wife, from a car, had shot at the leaping buffalo and missed completely hitting Francis right in the skull. Francis lay dead on the ground and his wife was in shock. Mr.Wilson had told her that he finally had the confidence to leave her and told her she should not have done it. Although she had yelled it was an accident and told Mr.Wilson to stop blaming her. He did not stop blaming her though until she said "please".
